Lakeside Garden In Yuan Ching Road Now Open To Public

There’s nothing wrong with playing Pokemon DS games and having fun with your iPhone, but sometimes you need some good old fashioned outdoor fun.

On Saturday (27 Apr), the Lakeside Garden – the first national garden in the heartlands – opened its doors to the public.

Located next to the Lakeside MRT, the massive 53-hectare lot has swirling red pathways, lush green plants and a beautiful waterfront view.

From nature play gardens, silver snake slides to lily pad trampolines, here’s a look at your kid’s next playground.

Silver snake slides, lily pad trampolines & heron play area

Through public engagement sessions with the National Park Board, the designers were able to combine the elements of nature, community and play.

Kids can roam free at 13 various play stations at Forest Ramble — the largest nature play garden in the heartlands.

The Frog Play area includes small trampolines called lily pads where children can hop from one mini trampoline to another.

Young adventurers who want to swing vines like Tarzan can feel the thrill of swinging back and forth at the Heron Play area.

At the Snake Play, children can climb up trees like the Paradise Tree Snake. Once they reach the top, they get a full view of the garden and enjoy a thrilling slide back to the ground.

Stunning waterfront view & meandering boardwalk

Nature lovers can blissfully bask in panoramic lakeside views at the Rasau Boardwalk. The 300-metre pathway takes visitors to the edge of Jurong Lake.

The Grasslands is a 3.5-hectare area surrounded by towering grasses, six various types of grass and about 300,000 plants. We don’t mind getting lost in a paradise that looks like this.

Underwater landscaping & mini-gingerbread houses

Lakeside Garden has an exciting lineup of events for kids.

Jurong Lake Gardens will host the first-ever SGF Horticulture Show from Sunday (27 Apr) to next Sunday (5 May).

The event will include a Nano Tank Aquascaping Competition where children can witness mesmerising underwater garden landscapes.

The Magical World of Miniature Settings will feature six dioramas filled with forests inspired by fairy tales like this Gingerbread House from Hansel and Gretel.

How to get there

National Parks Board gave detailed instructions on various ways citizens can visit the park.

Visitors can depart at Lakeside MRT Station and walk for five minutes to reach the garden. Meanwhile, car owners can park along Yuan Ching Road and cyclists can take the Round Island Route and Jurong PCN.

You could also take Bus Services 49, 98 154 and 187 to reach the garden, among others. View the map and transport options here.
