Customer pays S$8.10 for takeaway laksa from Kallang food court

He had approached a yong tau foo stall and purchased a bowl of laksa with six ingredients.

The meal cost him S$7.70, with an additional S$0.40 for takeaway.

Ultimately, the OP had to fork out a total of S$8.10 for the food.

He went on to state that he used to think stalls charging up to S$8 for dishes like biryani or murtabak were expensive.

“But now even laksa without prawns, cockles or half [an] egg is so expensive,” he noted.

The OP added that he thinks CDC vouchers have only encouraged vendors to charge even more for their products or services.

Netizens agree that laksa is costly

The post has since gained numerous comments from netizens who agreed with the OP.

Several of them said that the price was far too high for a simple bowl of laksa.

A few users also called for a boycott of the stall, evidently finding the price of the meal unfair.

Another netizen noted that it was a common issue with eateries islandwide.

Even after raising their prices using Chinese New Year as an “excuse”, the markups have remained even after the festive season has ended.

Some also said it would probably be better to check a stall’s prices before ordering from there.
