Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, known for co-chairing Singapore’s Covid-19 task force during the pandemic, has been infected with the virus himself for the first time.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday (3 Dec), he said he’d “finally succumbed to COVID after all these years!”

PM Wong’s maiden Covid-19 infection announced itself after he woke up on Tuesday morning with a bad sore throat.
While he initially thought it may be a “normal flu bug”, he took a test just to be sure.
It turned out to be positive.

PM Wong, 51, assured Singaporeans that he was “feeling fine overall”.
As he recovers, he will self-isolate while working from home, he said.
He advised Singaporeans to stay updated on their flu shots and vaccinations as they travel during the holiday season and take the necessary precautions — such as wearing a mask — if feeling unwell.
This is to protect yourself and those around you, he added.
PM Wong had recently returned from a “stretch of overseas work trips”, he said.
On 28 Nov, he visited Thailand at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, where he had an audience with the Thai King and Queen and was hosted to an official lunch by Ms Paetongtarn.
Before that, he was in South America from 14 to 20 Nov for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders’ Meeting and G20 Summit.
From 5 to 6 Nov, the PM visited Indonesia to pay an introductory visit to new Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
