Lee Hsien Yang & Wife Suet Fern Under Police Investigation For Allegedly Providing False Evidence

The police have commenced investigations into Mr Lee Hsien Yang and his wife Mrs Lee Suet Fern for allegedly giving false evidence in judicial proceedings relating to Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s will.

The couple had also initially agreed to attend a police interview but later amended their decision and left Singapore, said Senior Minister (SM) Teo Chee Hean on Thursday (2 Mar).

In spite of their absence, the police will reportedly be taking the necessary steps to complete the investigations. Meanwhile, they have also advised the pair to reconsider their participation in the investigations.

SM Teo, who also serves as the Coordinating Minister for National Security, added that the pair had misled founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew when it came to the execution of his will, reports The Straits Times (ST).

The finding was reportedly made by the Court of Three Judges — the highest disciplinary body dealing with lawyers’ misconduct — as well as a disciplinary tribunal.

In particular, the tribunal said the couple had presented “an elaborate edifice of lies … both on oath … and through their public and other statements.

Police commence investigations into potential offences

In light of the findings, the police have reportedly commenced investigations on the pair’s potential offences of giving false evidence in judicial proceedings, reports Channel NewsAsia.

As part of their investigations, the police reportedly requested an interview with the couple.

Though the pair initially agreed to the interview, they had a subsequent change of heart — a move that SM Teo described as “disappointing”.

The couple has since left Singapore and remains overseas, despite the police’s advice for them to reconsider taking part in their investigations.

In spite of their absence, the cops are reportedly taking the “necessary steps” to complete the investigations.

SM Teo said the couple’s refusal to participate in investigations “raises questions”. He also urged them to participate in the process, which will allow them to give their side of the story and potentially clear their names.

In 2020, the Court of Three Judges suspended Ms Lee from practising law.

This came after she was found guilty of misconduct in the handling of Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s final will.

Meanwhile, Mr Teo had chaired a Ministerial Committee convened to investigate what should be done with the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s property at 38 Oxley Road following his demise.
