On Tuesday (5 Nov), tragedy struck at Lentor Avenue when a car rammed into 29-year-old Ms Jaspreet Kaur and claimed her life.
According to The Straits Times, the foreign domestic helper was crossing the road while pushing her employer’s 2-year-old child in a stroller.
Upon noticing a car approaching, Ms Jaspreet pushed the stroller out of the way right before the car hit her.
She was later pronounced dead at Khoo Teck Puat hospital. Her sacrifice had since touched the hearts of many Singaporeans.

Subsequently, a 44-year-old driver was arrested for reckless driving and causing death. Investigations are still underway.
Just this morning (8 Nov), Singaporeans were shocked to learn that Ms Jaspreet was actually a mother herself.
In an interview with Ms Jaspreet’s employers, The Straits Times reporters were told that Ms Jaspreet had only been working in Singapore for about 3 months prior to the tragic accident.
Leaving her 7-year-old child behind, Ms Jaspreet left her home at Punjab, India to Singapore to work as a maid for the first time.

The employers also shared that Ms Jaspreet and their son – the 2-year-old boy – were close to one another, and he would often look for her at home.
The Straits Times also reported that the family is currently sorting out arrangements to send Ms Jaspreet’s body home.
As for the young boy in the stroller, he has been discharged from KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Ms Jaspreet’s sacrifice has touched the hearts of not only her employers, but Singaporeans alike as well.
Knowing that she had a child of her own makes her story even more heartrending, as it was probably her maternal instincts that kicked in and saved her employers’ boy.
We too are deeply saddened by the lost of this young life. MS News extends our deepest condolences to Ms Jaspreet’s family.
