Mediacorp’s Little Nyonya (小娘惹) TV series which aired in Nov 2008 is widely regarded as one of the best Channel 8 shows till date.
Though a decade has passed since then, viewers will soon be able to enjoy a newer and more elaborate version of the series come mid-June. This time, it’ll be produced in China with new cast members as well as a bigger budget.
With the script written by the same creator behind the original series, we have no doubts that the new show will be bigger yet authentic.
According to Sinchew Daily, the series is set to premiere on 12 Jun on iQiYi (爱奇艺) — which some call the “Netflix of China“.
First announced in 2018, the new series will be directed and produced by Mr Guo Jingyu, dubbed the “Legendary Drama King“.
While the storyline will largely be similar to its 2008 predecessor, the cast lineup will be drastically different.
Yueniang (月娘) – the main protagonist of the show – will be portrayed by Chinese actress Xiao Yan (肖燕).
We aren’t sure about you, but she sure bears resemblance to Jenette Aw (欧萱), who plays the character in the original Channel 8 series. Here’s a side-by-side comparison:

Dai Xiangyu (戴向宇) – previously known as Dai Yangtian – will be reprising his role as Yamamoto Yousuke.
Veteran Singaporean actress Xiang Yun (向云) will also be making a comeback, this time playing the role of the “powerful matriarch” named Madame Chen (陈老太).
The new rendition of the Channel 8 show apparently has a staggering S$30 million budget, so viewers can look forward to more elaborate costumes and props too.
If you enjoyed the original series back in 2008, the new Little Nyonya is something you don’t want to miss.
After all with the larger budget, this will be akin to an atas trip down your ‘TV-series memory lane’.
We hope the series will eventually be available to Singaporeans so viewers can reminisce their favourite C-Drama moments.
