People often say a father’s love is unconditional. The story you’re about to hear, is a perfect testament to that statement.
A father in Ang Mo Kio, Zhong De Rong – name translated from Chinese – had a hunch that his time was almost up after experiencing repeated chest pain and head numbness.
Hence, the 47-year-old crafted a long farewell message to his 7 children, hoping to prepare them for the worst in case anything happened to him.
Just as he had suspected from the start, he met his unfortunate demise 2 days later.
Last Saturday (14 Dec), Mr Zhong experienced chest pain and head numbness, according to Lianhe Zaobao. He reckoned that these symptoms meant something bad was happening to him.
Hence, at around 5am that day, he decided to pen down an apologetic message for his 7 children via WhatsApp.
Here’s a summary of the message:
Dear children, it happened twice, my chest hurts, half of my head is numb, and I can’t breathe properly. If anything happens, promise me that you will care for and love each other. Don’t leave anyone behind. Take care of your mother for me, don’t let her overthink…. continue to love her on my behalf. She had a hard life being married to me. I’m sorry, I couldn’t provide you all with a stable life, I already tried my best, I already worked very hard, but I still couldn’t make it…. I am really sorry. I’m contented to have you all as my family.
Just by reading it, you can tell how much Mr Zhong loved his family.
Upon receiving the message, Mr Zhong’s daughter urged him to visit a specialist and get a checkup done.
However, on Monday (16 Dec), Mr Zhong, who works as a salesperson, put his sickness aside and reported to work as per normal.
When he arrived home from work that day, he experienced chest pain once again. This time, he couldn’t tolerate any longer. His family then called an ambulance and rushed him to the hospital.

Little did his children know, that marks the last day they saw their father. The doctors couldn’t save Mr Zhong’s life and he passed away in the hospital.
Lianhe Zaobao added that Mr Zhong’s funeral was held at the void deck of his home — Block 641 Ang Mo Kio Ave 4.

His body will be sent for cremation on Friday (20 Dec).
As a daughter myself, it’s not difficult to imagine the amount of pain the Zhong family is going through after losing their beloved father.
It was touching to see how much Mr Zhong worried for his wife and children once he thought he wasn’t going to make it.
MS News extends our heartfelt condolences to Zhong’s family. May this loving father rest in peace.
