If you’re a pet owner, you can probably resonate with the panic of booking an appointment at a vet clinic when your fur baby falls sick.
Hence, it can be frustrating when it’s difficult to get in touch with the vet. What’s more, a hefty walk-in fee is also required at the clinic before they look at your pet.
One pet owner found herself in such a situation when she visited a vet clinic at Loyang Point on 3 Mar.
Frustrated, she took to the Complaint Singapore Facebook group to air her grievances.
She urged pet owners to be careful when choosing the right vet for their furkids as they shouldn’t feel pressured into paying additional service fees without a valid reason.
In a lengthy post, the OP shared that her pet cat, Hachi, suffered an inflammation in his private area. He also vomited a few times.
Concerned, the OP called the Loyang Point clinic to book an appointment.
She made multiple calls between 6.24pm and 7.27pm that night. However, no one picked up her calls.
She decided to take Hachi to the vet clinic anyway since it was only a 15-minute drive away.
She reached the clinic at 8pm, an hour before the vet clinic’s closing time of 9pm.
Noting that three staff were manning the counter, the OP observed that the vet clinic was not crowded at the time.
However, the nurses told her she had to pay an additional walk-in fee of S$72, even after she explained that she had been calling to arrange an appointment but to no avail.
The OP also alleged that the clinic director continued to insist that she pay the walk-in fee before attending to Hachi.
He only made it clear [that] if I don’t pay the extra walk-in fee of S$72.11, he will not see or treat Hachi at all.
When she tried to explain the multiple missed calls, she allegedly received a shrug and smirk as a response.
OP shared that she would normally be willing to pay for Hachi’s vet fees, but she felt ‘sceptical’ about paying these additional fees.
This is a vet clinic dealing with animal lives, how can they be so “uncontactable”?
According to OP, the clinic’s director also displayed an unprofessional attitude towards her as he seemingly prioritised the walk-in fees over making sure that Hachi did not require emergency treatment.
She also claimed that he even nonchalantly agreed he was not fit to be a vet after she called him out for his unprofessionalism.
The OP clarified that before this incident, she had no issues with the clinic when Hachi visited for a vaccination previously.
She ended her post by reminding fellow pet owners not to feel obligated to pay fees that cannot be justified.
MS News has reached out to the clinic for comment, but received no response.
