PMD Owners Who Dispose Of Non-Certified E-Scooters Early Get $100 Incentive

By now, most of us are probably aware of stricter rules and regulations put into effect for personal mobility devices (PMD).

Among them, is the rule stating users can only use UL2272-certified e-scooters in public spaces starting year 2021.

In case you are unaware, UL2272 is a certification issued only for scooters that have gone through a series of safety tests.

If you have an e-scooter that isn’t certified and you don’t know what to do with it, here’s some news from the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

They recently announced that PMD users who do not own a UL2272-certified scooter can dispose them at designated areas for free starting 23 Sep.

PMD users who dispose of their devices early get $100 incentive

To encourage owners to dispose of their non-certified e-scooters early, LTA will be rewarding early birds with a $100 incentive from 23 Sep to 30 Nov.

However, to qualify for the incentive, your e-scooter has to be registered with LTA.

PMD disposal procedure

To help you make the most out of this incentive, here’s how you can do it.

If your e-scooter is registered with LTA, you can:

1. Log in with your SingPass/CorpPass
2. Click on your E-Scooter registration number
3. Click on “E-scooter Disposal”
4. Complete an online application, you will receive a confirmation SMS
5. Bring your e-scooter, NRIC and the confirmation SMS to any designated disposal point.

If you complete these procedures by 30 Nov, a $100 incentive will be sent to you within 2 weeks.

However, if your PMD is not registered, you can simply bring your scooter to any of the designated areas for disposal.

Dispose only at designated areas

LTA also announced that all e-scooters collected under this scheme will be recycled safely by appointed e-waste recyclers.

So, do remember to only dispose of your PMDs at LTA-designated areas for safety purposes.

The entire disposal exercise will end on 31 March 2020. Hence, if you’d like to dispose your non-certified PMDs, there’s no better time than now.
