A fire broke out in the front yard of a terrace house on Jalan Kemajuan, MacPherson on Sunday (24 Nov) night. The fire later spread to another terrace house on the right.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, the blaze was suspected to have resulted from an oil lamp.
Footage provided by onlookers show flames burning through the front yard of the terrace house. Thick smoke was also seen billowing from the house.
At least nine Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) personnel were seen at the site.
She Wanlin (transliterated from Mandarin), a resident of the affected terrace, shared that she heard an explosion at home.
When she rushed out of the house to check, she found the front yard of the adjacent house on fire. Instinctively, she asked her parents and tenants to evacuate.
“My father was sleeping in the room at the time and my mother was also about to go to sleep, so the two of them escaped in their pyjamas,” recalled the 30-year-old.
To stop the fire from spreading, Ms She turned off the power switch when she left. Additionally, her father tried to extinguish the fire with a water pipe.
Upon hearing the commotion, neighbours swiftly approached the house with buckets of water. However, the fire had since aggravated and was too big for the residents to manage.
In response to MS News‘ queries, SCDF confirmed that the fire happened at the front porch area of the terrace house.
To extinguish the fire, SCDF officers had to conduct forcible entry on the house’s entrance gate.
No ambulance assistance was required. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
