On Thursday (31 Oct), a delivery rider took to Facebook to express frustration over disparaging remarks aimed at Malay riders from a foodpanda customer.
The customer allegedly left a handwritten note demanding that no Malay riders be assigned to their orders, accusing them of leaving food on the floor or near shoes.
This incident ignited widespread outrage, with many netizens condemning the customer’s rude remarks.
The customer’s note, titled “No Malays — because you are f***ing rude” and addressed to “foodpanda delivery bastards”, warned riders against leaving food on the floor or next to slippers.
They ominously suggested that those who do so might “get hit by [a] bus and die” while making a delivery.
Similar remarks were left in the delivery app, where the customer specifically identified Malay riders as those who “throw the food on the floor or leave them near the shoes”.
The rider who shared this encounter noted that the customer did not have hooks on their door for hanging food.
A photograph also revealed that the gate lacked both a knob and a handle.
In reaction to the posts, many netizens expressed their outrage at the customer’s comments.
Some accused the customer of racism for targeting Malay riders, highlighting that the lack of hooks makes it impossible for any rider to deliver orders satisfactorily.
Others quipped that riders should simply continue leaving the customer’s food on the floor.
One netizen even proposed that foodpanda should blacklist this customer and cease offering delivery services to them.
In a statement to MS News, a foodpanda spokesperson emphasised the company’s commitment to providing a “safe and positive platform experience” for all users, including riders.
“We do not condone inappropriate remarks or discriminatory behaviours, and take such matters seriously,” the spokesperson said.
Users found to be using abusive language may face consequences, including being blacklisted from foodpanda’s platform.
Additionally, delivery partners are encouraged to report such incidents through the pandarider app.
