Travellers Should Arrive At Malaysia Airports 4 Hours Early During Holiday Period

With the school holidays approaching in Malaysia, many families will likely be planning to take trips overseas.

As such, Malaysia Airports has advised travellers to plan ahead and arrive at the airport at least four hours early.

This is because it is expecting heavy passenger traffic during the holiday period, which begins on 26 Aug and will last until 3 Sep.

Additionally, travellers should also opt for public transport when heading to the airports.

High passenger traffic expected at Malaysia Airports during upcoming school holidays

On Monday (21 Aug), Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad released an advisory via its official X page.

The airport operator said that it is expecting high passenger traffic at its airports across the country during the upcoming school holidays.

According to the Malaysian Ministry of Education’s academic calendar, the Term Two school holidays commence on Friday (25 Aug) and end on Saturday (2 Sep).

As such, travellers should plan ahead and arrive at the airport at least four hours ahead of their departure time.

In addition, the company also urged travellers to opt for public transport when getting to the airport.

Passengers advised to take public transport, but expect travel times to be slow

Malaysian media company ASTRO’s anchor and editor Ibrahim Sani later quote-tweeted the advisory.

He reminded the public that there are no train services at the airport.

As a result, everything is slowed down, he said.

The media personality added, “They’ve just terminated Pestech. [They] don’t even have [a] contractor now.”

According to The Star, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad recently terminated its contract with rail operator Pestech.

The contract initially appointed Pestech to supply, design, and build an automated people mover (APM) or aerotrain at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

However, the airport operator terminated the agreement due to Pestech’s reported non-performance.

So, if you are planning to travel from or within Malaysia by plane, do remember to buffer enough time in lieu of the holidays.

Authorities have also recommend that travellers from Singapore and other eligible countries use the immigration autogates at KLIA.
