M’sian Heatwave In 10 Areas To Last Till April, Stay Hydrated When You’re There

Malaysian Heatwave Will Last Till April

While Singapore’s political climate is heating up with a possible election, our neighbours in Malaysia are literally feeling the heat because of the weather.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a Level 1 alert on Monday (25 Feb) for 10 areas around the country.

The alert was issued because temperatures in those areas have been between 35 and 37°C for three consecutive days, which is quite worrying.

The heat might last till April, so if you’ve scheduled a holiday across the causeway, you might want to keep reading.

10 areas on level 1 alert

MetMalaysia has placed 10 areas on level 1 alert:

  • Johor — Muar
  • Kuala Lumpur — Kepong
  • Pahang — Maran
  • Perlis — Chuping
  • Perak — Kuala Kangsar, Hulu Perak & Kinta
  • Kedah — Kota Setar, Kubang Pasu & Sik

Weekend getaway favourites Johor and KL are on the list, so brace yourselves for a sweltering time there.

If you’re planning a short stay in any of these areas, remember to be careful when engaging in outdoor activities.

We’d advise against staying outside for too long though, so seek shelter in a restaurant or mall and eat or shop to your heart’s content. Make the air-con your best friend.

Bringing a bottle of water with you wherever you go would also be a good idea to stay hydrated in the heat.

Heat will subside from April

The dry spell is a result of less than average monthly rainfall over the whole of Malaysia, which is expected to last till April.

The monsoon after that will bring heavy rains back, but till then, you’ll just have to settle with ice cold drinks and longer showers.

Those who really can’t handle the heat might want to check out Malaysia’s many water parks, such as Desaru Coast Adventure Waterpark in Johor.

Get creative with ways to handle the heat and don’t let the weather dampen your holiday plans.
