M’sians Throw Trash Out Of Windows As They’re Under Lockdown, Turning Ground Floor Into Dump

Malaysians Aren’t Leaving Their High-Rise Units To Throw Trash Away, So They’re Tossing It Downstairs Instead

Malaysia began a lockdown last Wednesday (18 Mar), which will last at least until the end of the month.

The Restriction of Movement Order (RMO) was meant to keep people in their homes, but some Malaysians haven’t seemed too keen on adhering to it — that’s why the military was recently deployed.

For the most part, it seems to be pretty successful, as some people are staying in and avoiding leaving their homes at all costs, not even to take out the trash.

Unfortunately, some Malaysians living in high-rise apartments have gotten a little too lazy with their trash disposal — they’re simply throwing their trash out the window, such that it lands outside the units of the neighbours on the ground floor.

One netizen took to Facebook to share his distaste for this method of garbage disposal.

Netizen concerned for ground-floor residents

He expressed concern for the residents on the ground floor too, writing in Malay:

I feel bad for the people living on the ground floor, their house probably smells like rubbish because of these irresponsible people. Throw your rubbish at the designated areas.

Thankfully for the ground floor residents, the netizen posted a photo of the rubbish being cleared by a worker a day later.

We sympathise with the worker as cleaning up that mess must have been an arduous task.

Don’t burden others with your inconsiderate behaviour

It might be important to stay indoors as much as possible to prevent the spread of Covid-19, but throwing your trash out of the window is taking it a bit far. Isolate yourselves by all means, but not at the expense of others.

Rubbish needs to be disposed of properly, especially during this period — it looks bad, smells worse, and could carry germs or the coronavirus and spread it to others.

We hope the post will remind those cooping themselves up at home to be more responsible for the well-being of themselves and others.

Sometimes, one man’s trash can be another man’s treasure, but in this case, one man’s trash is just another man’s burden.

Let’s look out for each other. It’ll make getting through this difficult period easier.
