Man in M’sia arrested for using 4 different IDs to buy over 100 litres of subsidised RON95 petrol

Man caught using four MyKad cards to hoard subsidised RON95 petrol

Police arrested a man in Tumpat, Kelantan, for allegedly using four different Malaysian Identity Cards (MyKads) to purchase over 100 litres of subsidised RON95 petrol at a local station on Wednesday (1 April).

Suspect arrested while refilling fuel at station

Kelantan Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, confirmed that they apprehended the suspect while he was refilling fuel at a station in Tumpat.

Upon inspection, officers discovered four MyKads belonging to different individuals in the suspect’s possession.

“These identity cards were used to facilitate the purchase of more than 100 litres of petrol,” he told reporters.

Police investigated misuse of identity documents

Police have also referred the case to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

Additionally, they are investigating the suspect under the National Registration Act 1959 for the misuse of identity documents.

“Police are also reviewing other relevant legal provisions to take further action against the suspect,” Datuk Mohd Yusoff added.

Authorities have not detected individuals smuggling diesel into Kelantan so far

The media have questioned the police about whether Malaysians are smuggling diesel from neighbouring countries into Kelantan via illegal routes.

However, the Police Chief stated that authorities have not detected such cases so far.

“To date, no Malaysians have been detained while attempting to bring diesel across the border from Thailand,” he said.

Interestingly, the current price of diesel in Thailand is approximately 38 baht (S$1.50) per litre. This is currently cheaper than the market price in Malaysia following the recent subsidy rationalisation.
