A man in Thailand has confessed to authorities that he adopted four dogs, only to have them killed for food.
The incident first surfaced on 11 Nov when a man made a Facebook post asking for help after he lost contact with the person who adopted a dog named Sushi.
He would later update the post saying that the dog had died.
According to local news outlet Khaosod, the case was forwarded to welfare organisation Watchdog Thailand Foundation (WDT), who then requested local police in Chiang Rai to search for the man who adopted the dog.
When police tracked him down in the Mae Chan district and questioned him, he confessed that he took the adopted dog to a slaughterhouse to kill it for food.
Additionally, he had also done the same thing to three other dogs.
Their names were Sushi, Sumo, Mhee, and Lucky. All four were adoptees.
WDT also urged police to investigate the slaughterhouse responsible for killing the dogs.
The foundation feared that the man may have adopted more dogs prior, and encouraged others to come forward with information if they have any.
In Thailand, lawmakers have banned the dog-meat trade, although some still believe in its perceived health benefits.
