A shocking video of a man dragging a cat through a condo corridor surfaced online, sparking widespread outrage.
In the Facebook video posted on Saturday (23 Nov) by the Malaysia Animal Association, a man clad in a black t-shirt and shorts was seen dragging a cat by its neck with a leash at a condominium corridor.
The cat could be seen struggling and yowling in pain as it was dragged across the floor while the man continued walking without the slightest concern for the feline.
At one moment in the video, the cat collapsed on its side, leaving a trail of urine presumably caused by the animal’s pain.
The incident reportedly occurred at 2.44pm on the same day at a condominium on Old Klang Road.
In the Facebook caption, Malaysia Animal Association President, Arie Dwi Andika, urged the individual who recorded the disturbing incident to come forward.
He mentioned they are offering a reward of RM3,000 (S$900) to anyone willing to step forward to report and bring the abuser to justice.
According to The Star, the person who had recorded the video later filed a police report against the man dragging the cat in the video.
At 6.10pm on the same day, police arrested a 43-year-old man, believed to be the man in the video, at his home, reports NST.
The Brickfields Serious Crimes Investigation Unit (D9) was responsible for the arrest.
Kuala Lumpur City Police Chief, Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, stated that the man had been remanded. The case will be investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code for causing harm or killing an animal.
Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case. As recently as last month, Malaysians were enraged and called for justice after a stray dog was killed by local council authorities in Terengganu.
