Recently, a man from Xinjiang, China went viral after he sold his house and car to piggyback his paralysed mother across the country.
31-year-old Ma posted videos of their journey on his Douyin channel. The pair has since visited notable spots in the country including Xi’An, the Great Wall, and Tiananmen.

According to Chinese local media, Ma’s mother got into an accident when he was eight years old and has suffered from cerebral atrophy since then.
The condition resulted in the mother being bedridden for most of Ma’s life.
Under Ma’s care and medical treatment, his mother’s condition improved — she’s no longer bedridden and can get around with the help of a wheelchair.
However, he was told that her cerebral atrophy condition remains incurable, meaning she will likely be bedridden again in the future.
To make the most of the time when his mother could still move, Ma sold his house and car and started travelling with his mother across China.
“We are always saying ‘next time’, but they are growing older every day,” he shared in one of his videos.

The pair has already been to several spots in the country so far.
Most notably, he carried his mother to watch the flag-raising ceremony in Tiananmen and scaled the Great Wall with her on his back.
Even though the mother’s intelligence has regressed to that of a child now, she smiles more every time they are on trips.
“Her smile makes it all worth it,” he said.
During their stop at Tiananmen, the pair ran into a content creator on Douyin, who offered to take a photo of them.
The creator then posted the video of his interaction with Ma, which has since gone viral, garnering over 960,000 views and 30,000 comments.
Some netizens offered assistance that would make the pair’s journey easier.
