Elderly man in Thailand kills sister & severely injures daughter-in-law in shooting spree after family evicts him

80-year-old man in Thailand shoots & kills sister after getting evicted from family home

An 80-year-old man in Thailand went on a shooting spree after his family evicted him from the family home. Angered by the decision, the elderly man killed his sister with an illegal firearm and severely injured his daughter-in-law.

Police responded to reports of the shooting on Sunday (24 Nov) which led to a stand-off with the man until he was arrested.

Shot at own family after they got him evicted

According to security camera footage, the man began shooting his family at around 11am on Sunday.

The senior walked into the home before pulling out a revolver tucked in his pants. He then began shooting at his family.

His 23-year-old daughter-in-law ran past him while trying to get away.  This prompted him to fire a shot at her point-blank. Miraculously, the bullet only went through her shoulder.

Police responded to reports about the shooting, which resulted in a short stand-off while the man resisted arrest. He was eventually apprehended and charged for the shooting.

He ended up killing his 75-year-old sister and severely injuring his daughter-in-law, who is now receiving treatment at a hospital.

Spree motivated by dispute over inheritance

According to Matichon, the man began shooting in a fit of rage over being evicted from the family home.

While his parents were alive, the man had reportedly declined to inherit a piece of land.

He would make do because he was quite able. He told them that he only wanted to be able to still live in the family home.

As he aged and his strength deteriorated, he changed his mind and began asking for the land he had declined years earlier.

However, his sister declined to hand the property over.

In an interview with Channel 8 News, the deceased woman’s son said the man would often threaten to kill the entire family because of the decision. He even set fire to their farm fields and house.

This came to a head when a court handed down its verdict saying the man had to leave the property.

Faces multiple charges

As he was being transported to the police station, the man refused to answer questions from reporters. However, when asked why he did it, he simply responded that his family had tried to drive him off the property first.
