A 29-year-old man died after slitting his throat in front of his girlfriend at a hotel in Sibu, Malaysia on Sunday (8 Dec).

According to See Hua Daily News, the man had contacted his girlfriend on Saturday morning, inviting her to meet the following day at a hotel in hopes of salvaging their relationship.

Despite her attempts to stop him, he took out a knife and slit his throat in front of her.

Fearing for her safety, the woman ran out of the room and sought help from the hotel staff.

Medical personnel arrived shortly after, but the man had already died from excessive bleeding.

Previously self-harmed due to relationship issues

Police received a report around 4pm and quickly dispatched officers to investigate.

Upon arriving at the scene, they found the man lying in a pool of blood on the hotel room floor.

The woman remained at the scene and provided a statement to the police, explaining what had happened.

She said that the couple had been in a relationship for many years, but her family had never accepted it.

The deceased had previously self-harmed multiple times due to relationship issues and had sent photos of his self-harm attempts to his girlfriend.

His body was later sent to the hospital morgue, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
