An 82-year-old man in Thailand has made it his daily routine to wake up early and sweep the road for 16 years.
When a Thai reporter visited Uncle Thong (name transliterated from Thai) at his home, they found him diligently sweeping the road with a coconut broom.
He shared that his day usually begins early, with him sweeping the yard in front of his house.
However, if he notices fallen leaves on the road outside, he feels compelled to clean them up as well.
Speaking to Thai news site Honkrasae, Uncle Thong said he feels content seeing the area clean.
As such, he would go on the ‘cleaning route’ daily, starting from his front yard and extending to the roadside along the railway, which totals 2km.
He said he has been doing so for 16 years, as reported by Thai news media Honkrasae.
Uncle Thong said he doesn’t expect any reward for his efforts — he simply wants to keep the area clean.
He also sees it as a form of exercise to stay healthy. In fact, the 82-year-old said he plans on continuing the routine as long as he can walk.
Neighbours and other members of the community recalled him sweeping the road since it was completed.
They described him as a kind and helpful person who regularly takes part in community events.
