Mao Shan Wang Durian Prices In S’pore May Drop Further As Supplies From M’sia Increase

Mao Shan Wang Durians Are Selling At Almost Half The Price Of Last Year’s

One of Singaporean’s favourite type of durian is the Mao Shan Wang.

There’s a reason why it’s called the ‘king’. The creamy durian is not only sweet, but it also looks the most appetising with its bright yellow flesh.

However, Mao Shan Wang’s are usually pricey. They normally go for at least $30 per kg. this season, there was a bumper crop in Malaysia, which pushed down the prices of those durians to almost half its usual price.

Here’s more good news — according to CNA, the prices may continue to drop as more supplies arrive from Pahang, Malaysia.

Pahang exports tons of durians

Pahang – a place in Malaysia that produces tonnes of Mao Shan Wang – will only export durians to Singapore in June.

According to the chairman for Pahang’s fruit farmers’ association, prices are already lower than the previous year. It is now around RM30 (S$9.90) for 1kg of durian there.

This means that “low prices will likely continue throughout this durian season.”

Another durian seller says that the increase in supply from Pahang may actually result in the price dropping even more in Singapore.

Either way, as long as there isn’t a sudden increase in prices, you can still enjoy cheap Mao Shan Wangs in June.

Durians are of a better quality

With the bumper crop due to good weather conditions, the durians this year are not only cheaper but better.

Apparently, due to the durians having more water in its developing stages, they are now “creamier, with stronger aromas”.

The season will last 2.5 months this year ending in August so we suggest that you quickly go and purchase one for yourself.

You never know when you might get the chance to purchase durians that are this cheap and good again.
