On Tuesday (22 Oct), a seven-year-old boy was crushed to death after a concrete slab fell off a three-storey shophouse in Bukit Baru, Melaka. The incident happened at about 10.15pm, reports the New Straits Times (NST).
The falling debris had also hit the victim’s 42-year-old father and five-year-old brother. However, they sustained minor injuries.
The police report was lodged by the manager of a Domino’s Pizza restaurant in the building. According to him, six motorcycles were also struck by the concrete slab that fell from above the restaurant.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Assistant Commissioner, Christopher Patit, said that the police identified the victim as Ong Lun Keat, a resident of Taman Bukit Baru Solok Bukit Pulau.
“The boy and his brother had accompanied their father to a bank next to the affected building when the incident happened,” he said.
“The three were standing outside a Domino’s Pizza outlet when they were hit by the falling debris.”
According to ACP Christopher Patit, the boy was believed to have died on the spot due to the impact of the falling debris.
A postmortem report conducted on Wednesday (23 Oct) revealed that the cause of death was the severe injuries he sustained from being crushed by the heavy debris.
The case has been classified as sudden death, and further investigations are ongoing.
