MINDEF Sends 2,000KG Of Medical Supplies To Help China With Covid-19, A Symbol Of Real Friendship

MINDEF Sends Medical Supplies Like Goggles, N95 Masks & Medical Handwash To Thank China

In times of need, friends do all they can to help each other tide past the hurdle ahead.

So in these difficult times when China – and in particular the Hubei province – is dealing with the Covid-19, it’s only a given that Singapore do our part as a regional ally to help.

On Friday (21 Feb), Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen gave us a glimpse of how we’ve been helping with ongoing efforts in China.

He revealed that Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) has recently sent over 2,000kg of medical supplies to military hospitals in China.

Needless to say, the medical supplies are meant to help with the Covid-19 outbreak.

However, it was also meant to reciprocate the friendship shown by Ba Yi aerobatics team, for the stringent measures they took to perform at the Singapore Airshow.

Supplies delivered reportedly include safety goggles, N95 masks, and medical handwash.

Earlier this week, Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it has dispatched a second round of humanitarian assistance to China.

Singapore’s ambassador to China and former Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew was also seen handing the supplies over to a representative of the People’s Liberation Army.

Dr Ng ended his post by aptly writing about the friendly ties that Singapore and China share,

The fight in this outbreak is against the virus, and friends can reach out to each other in this time of need.

Countries should help one another as friends do

Indeed, like friends helping each other through ups and downs in life, countries should also help one another when crisis strikes.

While we may have sacrificed some of our supplies, what we get in return is the intangible gift of friendship.

We have no doubt that China, and in fact, other countries we share friendly ties with, will come to our aid should we face a crisis of such magnitude.
