MOE Suspends Sharing Of Indoor Sports Facilities With Public From 2 Mar In Light Of Covid-19

Public Sharing Of Schools’ Indoor Sports Facilities Suspended Starting 2 Mar

To encourage Singaporeans to be more active, the government introduced a scheme in 2015 to allow members of the public to use sports facilities in schools.

However, SportSG and Ministry of Education (MOE) will be temporarily suspending this from 2 Mar onward in light of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Temporary suspension

In a statement on Thursday (20 Feb), SportsSG and MOE jointly announced the decision to stop public sharing of indoor facilities in schools, like indoor sports halls, starting 2 Mar.

This is in light of the current Covid-19 outbreak, as well as intensified cleaning and hygiene efforts conducted by schools.

The suspension is only temporary. However, authorities did not disclose when members of the public will be allowed to book such facilities again.

Find other ways to stay active

While this measure may bring inconvenience for Singaporeans who regularly make use of these facilities, we have no doubt that it’s for the better good in the long term.

We hope that this does not stop Singaporeans from staying active. During this outbreak, it’s especially important for us to stay healthy by exercising too.

Here are some challenges you can take up during this time, curated by our fitspo colleagues.

Most importantly, remember to observe good hygiene by washing your hands with soap often, and to visit a doctor ASAP should you feel unwell.
