Monk in Thailand pastes fake eyebrows to pass facial scan for welfare card while shopping

Monk in Thailand pastes fake eyebrows to pass facial scan after it fails to recognise him

A monk had to resort to pasting fake eyebrows after his facial scan repeatedly failed when trying to use his welfare card at a shop in Thailand.

The amusing incident, which occurred on Sunday (1 Dec), was captured by a security camera and quickly went viral.

According to Khaosod, the recently ordained monk was a regular at the store, even stopping by for a drink before he took the robe.

But that fateful morning, the 45-year-old hit a snag when he tried to use his state welfare card at checkout.

Since the card requires a facial scan, the cashier whipped out her phone to scan his face.

The two struggled to make it work, trying multiple angles with no luck.

Eventually, the cashier’s arms were starting to tire. Ready to give up, the monk figured it might be easier to return to the temple and try again another day.

Using electric tape to fix the issue

Luckily, another customer came up with a suggestion: why not try adding eyebrows to the monk’s face and retry the scan?

So, he grabbed some black electric tape, cut it into two eyebrow-shaped pieces, and carefully pasted them onto the monk’s forehead.

When the cashier scanned his face again, it finally worked.

“So it was because of the eyebrows!” the monk exclaimed, as the cashier began to laugh at the situation.

The monk had registered his facial data before becoming a monk, which was why the scan was necessary.

In a later interview with a local reporter, he expressed concern that people might find the situation inappropriate.

However, he was ready to accept whatever consequences came from the incident.

Fortunately, many found the whole thing hilarious, with one commenter joking that it was lucky the scan didn’t require the monk to wear a wig.
