‘Fate extinguished his dream’: Motorcyclist killed in container truck accident in M’sia worked in S’pore

For the second time in a week, an accident involving a container truck in Malaysia took the life of someone before their time.

This time, it was a 33-year-old motorcyclist who died on the spot after colliding with the container and trailer.

Deceased worked as aerospace engineer in S’pore

The deceased, 33-year-old Muhammad Adib bin Adnan, lived in Johor Bahru (JB) with his wife and three-year-old daughter, reported Sin Chew Daily.

The family reportedly moved from Seremban into a rented house in JB a few years ago so that it would be more convenient for his work as an aerospace engineer in Singapore.

Friends told the paper that the motorcyclist was a “good man” who would make the journey across the Causeway daily to provide for his family.

He hoped to buy a house for his family

Muhammad Adib hoped to one day buy a house for his family, the friends added.

Relatives told the China Press that he had not behaved differently before the accident and still aimed to save more money for his property dream.

However, “fate extinguished his dream”, they said.

They didn’t know where he was going when he met with the accident.

Widow breaks down at mortuary

At about 3pm on Friday (15 Nov), Muhammad Adib’s widow, relatives and friends arrived at Kluang Hospital’s mortuary to collect his body.

 

Overcome with emotion, the widow, an elementary-school teacher, broke down in tears.

Motorcyclist crashed into container that flipped over during accident

According to a Facebook post by Johor’s Fire and Rescue Department, the accident that took his life occurred on Friday morning along the North-South Highway.

The driver of the container truck lost control and crashed into the road divider, causing it to flip over together with its container, according to Malaysian media.

Muhammad Adib’s motorcycle then crashed into the container. He was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering serious head injuries.

Young couple also injured during accident

The accident also injured a young couple who were in a car that crashed into the truck, the police said in a statement quoted by The Star.

The man, 25, had to be extricated using special equipment. He suffered two broken legs and chest injuries.

His 26-year-old wife was conveyed to the hospital by members of the public. She was found to have internal bleeding in her head and wounds on her forehead, chin and right hand, among other injuries.

The couple was also travelling with their one-year-old baby who was unhurt.

Container truck driver said tyre burst caused accident

The 40-year-old truck driver also emerged unscathed from the accident.

He told police he lost control of his vehicle due to a burst tyre, and has tested negative for drugs.

He has been arrested, with the police investigating the incident.

Car driver crushed to death by container two days before

The accident came two days after a female driver was crushed to death by a container that fell from a trailer lorry.

21-year-old Lee Zi Rou was reportedly driving to work when she stopped at a traffic light and the trailer made a sharp turn from the opposite direction.

The 51-year-old trailer driver has been arrested and faces a charge of dangerous driving causing death.
