In our rush to get from point to point, we often forget to pay attention to our surroundings.
An elderly man in Malaysia was lucky a young motorist did, saving him from an unfortunate death by suicide.
A passerby who witnessed the incident on Saturday (7 Mar) and shared it on Facebook, garnering over 5,000 shares at the time of writing.
According to Johor China Press, the elderly man had been facing medical issues and contemplated taking his own life.
He had climbed over the fence bordering the road from the water below, and was ready to jump, when someone suddenly reached out to grab him.
Holding him by his arm and shirt sleeve, the young motorist stood by his stationary bike with his helmet on, keeping the elderly man from slipping away.
He maintained that position while waiting for help to come.
The Fire and Rescue Department came shortly after, but their job was done as the unlikely hero had managed to persuade the elderly man from jumping, reported Johor China Press.
They took the now calm man to the hospital, and left the scene not long later.
Mr Ngai, who saw the heroic rescue and captured the moment, shared the photos on Facebook along with a moving reminder for Malaysians.
Amidst the country’s political uncertainty, he hopes that the Malay motorist saving the Chinese man’s life is a reminder of their precious racial harmony.
No political rift of any sort should get in the way of that.
Ending off on a rousing note, he says in Malay that he loves Malaysia, and loves his friends of different races in Malaysia.
