S’pore Learner Motorists Have To Do Simulator Training Before Booking TP Test From 16 Dec

Motorists Will Have To Do Simulator Training Before They Get To Hit The Roads For Tests

Behold, the rite of passage for many teens after they turn 18 — driving lessons. Driving lessons can be daunting and it’s worse when you have to hit the roads for your practical driving or riding tests.

Good news for those who get jittery – now there’s a way to prepare yourself before you navigate the merciless Singapore roads.

From 16 Dec onwards, all learner motorists will have to do driving or riding simulator training before they can book their practical or Traffic Police (TP) test slots, according to the Singapore Police Force (SPF).

Simulator training at 3 driving centres

This training will only be available at the following centres:

  • ComfortDelGro Driving Cantre
  • Bukit Batok Driving Centre
  • Singapore Safety Driving Centre

According to Lander Simulation & Training Solutions, Singapore ordered 17 new car and motorcycle simulators earlier this year.

All Class 2, 2A, 2B, 3 or 3A will have to finish the simulator training before they are allowed to book their TP Tests.

However, one will have to go for at least 5 practical lessons before they can book the simulator training. This is to ensure that they’re competent enough in controlling their vehicle so they can understand the scenarios the simulator presents.

Each module can be completed in about 15 to 20 minutes.

Helps prevent accidents

SPF shared that the scenarios presented in the training sessions are based on the 10 most common causes of traffic accidents that “often result in injuries”

The causes include high-speed expressway cornering, cyclists in blind spots, and driving or riding in wet weather conditions.

With the simulator practices, learner motorists will get to practise their defensive driving and ride in “a safe and controlled environment” with lower risks.

All the best for your tests

With the simulator training sessions now made compulsory, perhaps the practical tests wouldn’t seem so daunting.

Just imagine you’re at the arcade with your friends.

Hopefully, the training sessions will also help those taking the test to be more confident and maybe even pass on the first try.

All the best!
