No Visits To 6 Muslim Graveyard Blocks Till Dec 2020 As MUIS Starts Reburial Process

6 Blocks Of Muslim Graves At Pusara Aman Out Of Bounds Till Dec 2020

The fasting month starts soon, and while Muslims in Singapore prepare for the annual ritual, they get ready for the festivities at the end too.

Come Hari Raya, family both deceased and alive become the focus, which is why many Muslims visit graves on the first morning.

But this year and possibly next year could be different as the reburial of 6 blocks of graves in Pusara Aman puts visits to a temporary halt.

Public access to 6 blocks cut off

The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) has been reburying old graves at Blocks 6, 7, 8, 9, 19 and 20 in Pusara Aman since Sep 2018, according to a report by Berita Harian.

Roughly 35,000 Muslim graves in the Choa Chu Kang site will likely undergo the process by Dec 2020.

45,000 Chinese graves are said to be affected too, as authorities attempt to free up space for the expansion of Tengah Air Base.

No visiting till process is complete

For safety, the 6 blocks will be out of bounds to the public while reburial is ongoing.

People will hence be unable to visit their relatives’ graves in these blocks until the process ends some time in Dec next year.

MUIS seeks the public’s understanding and cooperation in this matter in order to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Hopefully, the project can finish in due time and without any disruptions, so that Singaporeans can visit their relatives’ graves again.
