Najib Razak Arrested For 3rd Time In 2018, Out On Bail In Just 2.5 Hours

Najib Arrested & Out On Bail For 3rd Time In 5 Months

2018 has probably been a law-abiding year for you. Most of us cross the roads only when the lights turn green, and we always try to throw our rubbish in designated bins.

Unfortunately, the cold metallic touch of a pair of handcuffs hasn’t been foreign to ex-Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak this year.

On Monday (10 Dec) morning, Mr Razak was arrested once again. Like other times this year, he was out on bail in no time — slightly under 2.5 hours to be exact.

If you’re like us, who have clearly lost track of the times Mr Razak was arrested this year, here’s a handy compilation.

1. Probe into former unit of 1MDB (3 Jul)

Mr Razak was first arrested on Tuesday (3 Jul) in relation to a probe into SRC International — a former unit of Malaysian state fund, 1MDB.

The 65-year-old was charged the next day, but pleaded “not guilty” to the 4 charges levelled against him.

On the same day, bail was posted for Mr Razak at RM1 million (S$337,000). His 2 passports were also confiscated.

2. Abuse of power (19 Sep)

After slightly more than 2 months passed, Mr Razak was arrested once again on Wednesday (19 Sep). This time, for alleged “abuse of power”.

Malaysia’s anti-graft agency later revealed in a statement that the arrest was made  regarding the RM2.6 billion (S$854 million) that allegedly flowed into his personal bank account.

Again, the 65-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charges tabled against him, and was subsequently released after a bail of RM3.5 million (S$1.15 million) bail was posted for him.

3. Tampering with documents (10 Dec)

At 10.40am today (10 Dec), Mr Razak was arrested for allegedly tampering with 1MDB documents.

Many wouldn’t know this, but 10 Dec also happened to be the 67th birthday of his wife, Rosmah Mansor.

Despite facing difficult times, their daughter Nooryana took to Instagram to express how grateful she was that her family is “healthy and alive”.

Mr Razak was later released on bail at 1.20pm.

Will 3rd time be a charm?

Having been arrested thrice from July to December, the 2nd half of 2018 must’ve been rather unpleasant for Mr Razak.

That said, will Mr Razak third arrest finally bring the him to justice for his alleged crimes?

Only time will tell.
