The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced 2 more confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus on Tuesday (11 Feb).
This brings the total number of cases in the country to 47.
One is a Singapore permanent resident (PR) who works at the Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) Casino, while the other is a Bangladeshi worker, who is a contact to the country’s 42nd case.
Both do not have prior travel history to China.
According to MOH, the 46th case in Singapore is a 35-year-old man who is a Singapore PR.
He reportedly lives in Johor Bahru and works at the RWS Casino.
The man apparently started displaying symptoms on 5 Feb and visited a GP clinic 4 days later on 9 Feb.
He was taken to Tan Tock Seng that very same day where he tested positive for the virus on Monday (10 Feb).
Before being admitted to the hospital, the man allegedly went to work at the casino.
He is currently isolated at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID).
The 47th person to test positive for the coronavirus is a 39-year-old male from Bangladeshi.
He reportedly worked at 10 Seletar Aerospace Heights, the same location where the 42nd case worked at.
The Bangladeshi worker felt under the weather on 6 Feb and went to a GP clinic the next day.
He visited the NCID on Monday (10 Feb) where he was found to be infected.
The man had reported for work and stayed at his rental apartment at Veerasamy Road before being hospitalised.
In addition to the new cases, MOH also confirmed that 7 are currently in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
There are, however, good news amidst all the gloom.
According to MOH, 2 more patients have been discharged, bringing the total to 9 — more than 20% of the total number of infected patients.
Even though there are new confirmed cases of the coronavirus every day, perhaps we can seek comfort in the fact that roughly the same amount of patients are also being discharged daily.
As the fight against the infectious coronavirus continues, let’s remember to maintain good hygiene and wear a mask when not feeling well.
