NTU Canteen Stall Suspended For 2 Weeks For Infestation, Accumulated 12 Demerit Points In 1 Year

NTU Canteen Stall Suspended For 2 Weeks For Infestation

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has suspended a canteen stall at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) for two weeks.

This is due to the stall accumulating 12 demerit points within a 12-month period.

The stall had failed to keep their premises infestation-free. It also did not register an assistant.

On top of the suspension, the licensee also had to pay a fine of S$800.

NTU canteen stall accumulated 12 demerit points in a year, suspended 2 weeks

On Tuesday (24 Oct), SFA announced in a press release that they have suspended Foodelicia, a canteen stall at 38 Nanyang Crescent, Block 23, for a period of two weeks.

The suspension will last from 24 Oct to 6 Nov, both dates inclusive.

This is because the stall had accumulated 12 demerit points within a 12-month period, the agency said.

Foodelicia received six demerit points for each of these two offences:

  • Failure to keep licensed premises free of infestation
  • Failure to register assistant

On top of the suspension, the SFA also issued a fine of S$800 to the stall.

SFA may suspend an offending licensee for either 2 or 4 weeks, based on track record

SFA added that they may suspend a licensee for a two- or four-week period based on track records if they accumulate 12 or more demerit points in 12 months.

Additionally, food handlers of the premises under suspension need to re-take and pass the WSQ Food Safety Course Level 1 before they can resume work.

If the licensee has food hygiene officers working on the premises, they also need to ensure that the officers re-attend and pass the WSQ Food Safety Course Level 3.

In light of this suspension, the SFA reiterated that they take a serious view of such offences.

They reminded all food operators to observe good food and personal hygiene practices at all times.

Food operators should also only engage registered food handlers.

“SFA will not hesitate to take firm action against anyone found to be in violation of the Environmental Public Health Act,” the agency stated.

Members of the public who encounter poor food safety practices in F&B establishments may send their feedback here or call the SFA Contact Centre at 68052871 to provide more details for follow-up investigations.
