Okto Taken Off National TV, Kids Shows To Air On Channel 5 From 1 May

RIP Okto, But We Still Miss Kids Central

Kids these days are glued to their iPads rather than television screens. From interactive touch screen games to unlimited Baby Shark remixes on YouTube, what’s not to love?

Because second screens are trumping TV offerings by a long shot, Mediacorp has announced the death of Okto as we know it — on TV that is.

Thanks for the memories

Channel 5 and Okto will officially be merged from 1 May 2019 onwards. RIP Okto, but we all know Kids Central was the one true kids channel to unite Singaporeans.

One English channel only

All kids shows now exclusive to Okto are expected to find a new lease of life on Channel 5.

Mediacorp promises to bring “new content” and “fresh formats” to cater to every family. A strong focus on kids is expected to continue, although more details about upcoming shows have yet to be released.

Finding new life on Toggle

If your kids rely on a daily episode of Hiccup & Sneeze, Exlosers 2, or My Little Pony to get through a trying lunch at the dining table, fret not.

Free-to-air programming will continue to stream online on Toggle.

We’re guessing that you can try Google casting the episodes to your smart TV, since they won’t be airing on a regular TV channel anymore.

Toggle’s Okto schedule

We’ve taken a look at a typical day in Okto’s lineup on Toggle, and it would include these shows.

  • Justin Time 1 & 2
  • Teddies 2
  • Guess How Much I Love You – The Adventures of Little Nutbrown Hare
  • Sesame Street 47
  • Mouk
  • Ready Jet Go!
  • Hiccup & Sneeze
  • Rob The Robot
  • Odd Squad 2
  • Shutterbugs
  • Littlest Pet Shop 2
  • Marcus Level
  • The New Powerpuff Girl
  • Exlosers 2
  • My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic 5
  • Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir
  • Turning Mecard
  • Inazuma Eleven
  • Battle Of The Network Stars

Consider tuning in to them if your child is in the mood for some free-to-air cartoons.

Bring back Robbie & his Book of Tales

Hopefully the fresh direction Mediacorp intends inject back into Channel 5, will be sufficient to pull viewers back to their screens — especially when it comes to kids shows.

Many of us millennials reminisce about the times we’d sit glued to the telly screens awaiting episodes of We Are R.E.M or Robbie & The Book Of Tales.

Just not the same without you

We sincerely hope that the death of Okto on TV, will see hyperlocal content for children reborn from the ashes of the fallen channels.

Or you know, spawn remakes of TV classics that we know and love. #RIPKidsCentral
