Typhoon Jebi batters Osaka

The strong wind and lashing rains swept a tanker anchored in Osaka Bay into a bridge, forcing Kansai International Airport to close.

Hundreds of flights had to be cancelled, leaving thousands of travellers stranded.

High waves whipped up by the storm flooded parts of Japan.

Extreme weather has also caused power outages and travel chaos across much of the country.

MFA releases travel advisory for Singaporeans

In view of the mayhem, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) encourages Singaporeans to avoid visiting Japan during this critical period.

Singaporeans are recommended to defer any non-essential travel to Osaka.

Meanwhile, Singaporeans in the affected areas are urged to take necessary precautions and to monitor local news closely.

Travellers may wish to consider alternative transport arrangements.

One way is to take flights out of nearby airports such as Kobe Airport.
