A parent in Yunlin County, Taiwan, allegedly assaulted a primary school student whom he believed had bullied his daughter.
The incident occurred at a local primary school on Thursday (7 Nov) following an altercation between the two fifth-grade students.
According to the school, the male and female classmates were involved in a conflict on Wednesday (6 Nov).
Their teacher promptly separated the two and provided individual guidance.
After the students exchanged apologies, their teacher notified both families of the incident.
The children’s mothers met on the morning of 7 Nov to apologise to each other.
However, shortly afterwards at around 7.15am, the girl’s father drove to the school, shouting the boy’s name as he searched for him.
Upon finding the boy, he struck him in the abdomen, an attack that staff were unable to prevent due to its suddenness.
Fortunately, the school principal intervened quickly, restraining the father and preventing further harm.
The boy was subsequently taken to the hospital, where a medical examination revealed a bruise on the left side of his abdomen and haematuria — blood in his urine — as a result of the incident.
On the afternoon of the incident, both sets of parents were called to the school to clarify the situation.
The girl’s mother acknowledged that her husband’s actions were wrong but claimed he acted out of anger because the boy had allegedly kicked their daughter in the abdomen several times and pushed her to the ground the previous day.
The boy’s parents are now reportedly seeking to press charges against the girl’s parents for assault and intimidation, while the girl’s parents intend to pursue a case against the boy for causing injury.
Although the parents had initially reached a reconciliation at school, tensions resurfaced after a relative publicly criticised the school on Facebook, alleging it had failed to report the incident to the police.
The school stated that peace talks were held with the parents, and both parties reached a mutual understanding.
The two students remain in the same class, and the school is closely monitoring their interactions to provide support where necessary.
Additionally, the school plans to hold parent-teacher meetings to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, Yunlin County Education Department Director Qiu Xiaowen announced that the school has been directed to strengthen its safety protocols.
He also urged parents to approach such issues calmly, ensuring a stable learning environment for students and an undisturbed teaching environment for staff.
