Woman Gives Cabby $100 When Fare Was Only $10, He Tells Her “You Make My Day”

Singapore Passenger Tips Taxi Driver $90, Leaves Him Grateful During This Difficult Covid-19 Period

For the past 39 days, Singaporeans have been staying home to protect themselves from Covid-19.

The mandatory ‘Circuit Breaker’ measures hence cleared the streets, leaving taxi drivers travelling aimlessly in search for passengers.

When cabby Mr He received a generous tip of S$90 from a passenger on Wednesday (13 May), he was left absolutely touched by the immensely heartwarming gesture.

He decided to share this heartwarming incident with 8World News, inspiring the rest of us to be compassionate to the people around us.

Passenger gave the cabby a $100 paper note

Mr He picked up this kind lady from Takashimaya Shopping Centre at 5.16pm on Wednesday evening.

The 9-minute car ride racked up a total fare of $10.47, according to the receipt shown in this picture by All Singapore Stuff on Facebook.

To Mr He’s surprise, the passenger handed him a hefty sum of $100 in cash and told him to keep the change.

Though the cabby was initially reluctant to keep the excess $90, the woman genuinely hopes for him to accept the gesture.

She states that taxi drivers are having it hard these days and she just wants to do her best to lend a helping hand, according to 8World News’ report.

Act of compassion made Mr He’s day

Of course, the taxi driver is immensely grateful towards her, expressing that this is the first time a passenger has been so generous.

He expressed his elation in Chinese,

I’m very grateful to her. This is my first time receiving so much money as a tip. I even told her ‘you make my day’.

Mr He shares that taxi drivers are now driving around for hours before they can find a passenger and each trip only earns them around $5-6, reported 8World News.

Furthermore, he still has to pay for car rental fees, which cost $21.40 each day.

As you can see, this tip means a lot to Mr He, who is going to use the money to cover his taxi rental fee for the next 5 days.

Caring for people around us

Mr He’s warm encounter with the female passenger is indeed the story we need to boost our morale this ‘Circuit Breaker’.

It shows us how a simple gesture of ours can greatly aid others in overcoming tough periods in their lives.

Hopefully, this wholesome story will inspire more Singaporeans to do the same.
