A quick-acting lifeguard saved the life of a girl who was drowning seemingly unnoticed in a pool in Penang.
The incident took place in the swimming pool of the Hard Rock Hotel on Penang Island.
TikTok user ‘Sapagonjeng’ uploaded a video of it on 19 Nov.
At the time, the OP was filming their child playing in the children’s pool further in the background.
However, a look at the other corner of the footage showed two children playing without adults near a blue slide.
One child sat at the end of the slide while the other appeared to be struggling just under the water.
Unbeknownst to the OP, this young girl was drowning.
However, a lifeguard quickly noticed her and jumped into the pool without hesitation.
He pulled her out of the water and carried her towards the side of the swimming pool, after which the clip ended.
The OP said they would not have noticed the child drowning if the lifeguard had not taken action.
They also warned other parents in the caption to be more alert when taking their kids to the pool.
In just a day, the TikTok video went viral, gaining over 3.3 million views.
Many commenters praised the lifeguard.
One commenter said that the Hard Rock Hotel’s lifeguards maintained great alertness at the swimming pool, based on personal experience.
Others wondered where the girl’s parents were, given the apparent lack of supervision.
