An 18-year-old student was killed when the car he was in collided with a road divider at the Sungai Dua Toll Plaza in Butterworth, Penang, on Friday (6 Dec).
The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) shared photos of the devastating accident on Facebook, showing the severity of the impact.
Images of the wreck show the mangled front half of the Perodua Myvi, reduced to twisted metal and crumpled debris.
Shattered parts can also be seen strewn across the road.
According to JBPM’s post, three male occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Two of them were successfully rescued by members of the public, but the third remained trapped in the rear passenger seat.
Seven firefighters from the Kepala Batas Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched at 9.58am following an emergency call.
The rescue team worked swiftly to extricate the trapped victim from the wreckage.
Unfortunately, medical personnel later confirmed that he had succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The deceased has been identified as Muhammad Adam Mifdal Mohd Affendy, an 18-year-old private college student, Harian Metro reported.
His two friends, Muhammad Amirul Johan Rizwal, 18, and the driver, 22-year-old Muhammad Shahmi Mohd Yusof, sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
JBPM Penang Operations Officer Idrus Zakaria stated that the vehicle is believed to have skidded before crashing into the road divider at the toll plaza.
The deceased’s body has been handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further investigation.
