Following a gas pipe burst and explosion in Malaysia on Tuesday (1 April), volunteer firefighters managed to rescue several pets from a neighbourhood impacted by the disaster.
According to the Malay Mail, the firefighters rescued two dogs, three rabbits, and a hamster.

The gas pipe explosion in Putra Heights — located just outside Kuala Lumpur — created a massive mushroom cloud of fire and was so intense that stones rained down from the sky.
But humans weren’t the only ones affected by the disaster.
Shah Alam Fire Station volunteer firefighter Datuk Ken Foo Kwok Sing and his team found several pets in the Taman Harmoni residential area, just metres away from the blaze.
While many pet owners have since come forward to reclaim their animals, two dogs remain unclaimed.

Mr Foo told Free Malaysia Today that the firefighters found the two canines while patrolling the evacuated neighbourhood.
The dogs were discovered in separate homes, appearing disoriented and unable to walk.
They had also been tied up, so firefighters freed them before taking them to a veterinary clinic.

Vets administered oxygen and IV drips after determining the dogs were suffering from smoke inhalation.
“The clinic was kind enough to carry out these treatments for free, along with a full blood check,” Mr Foo added. “We would like to urge owners of these dogs to contact us to reunite with their dogs.”
A 60-year-old woman, known only as Ms Yap, shared that she was cleaning her pets’ cages when the explosion occurred.
She immediately told her daughter to start the car, but the cages were too hot, so she had no choice but to carry her pet rabbits to the washroom to keep them safe.
Ms Yap, who has six pets, explained that she was only able to take her sugar glider with her.

Although she was later able to rescue three of her rabbits and a guinea pig, one rabbit remains missing.
Pet owners affected by the disaster can access free pet care services from the Malaysian Animal Association until 8 April.
The blaze impacted more than 200 homes.
