Foodies who love pig trotters would know of Shi Nian Pig Leg Rice.
Recently, the popular braised pig trotter rice stall opened a new franchise outlet at Old Airport Road Food Centre.
This is their eighth outlet in Singapore, and to celebrate the opening, the owner is giving out 2,000 free bowls of pig trotter rice from 30 Jan to 1 Feb.
Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, 26-year-old store owner Tommy Pang said he hopes to attract more customers to enjoy their food.
From Monday (30 Jan) to Wednesday (1 Feb), the newly-opened Shi Nian Pig Leg Rice outlet at Old Airport Road is offering customers free pig trotter rice or pig leg rice.
According to 8World News, the stall is expected to give out about 700 bowls daily on average.
In total, they are estimated to dish out about 2,000 servings over three days.
On Monday (30 Jan), as staff were still preparing the ingredients, several regular customers were already waiting to get their bowl of pig trotter rice.
Shortly after the stall opened at 11am, long lines started forming with over 20 people in the queue.
By 6pm, hundreds of pig trotter rice bowls were already given out but many remained in the queue, still hoping to get a taste.
50-year-old Madam Zhong told 8World News that she is a regular customer of Shi Nian Pig Leg Rice.
After learning that they were giving out free bowls of pig trotter rice, she joined the queue at 10.30am.
She said that the stall’s pig trotters are especially tender and suitable for the elderly.
Another customer in the queue, 65-year-old Mr Ronnie Goh, said he decided to try out Shi Nian’s pig trotters to see if they were worth the hype.
Many of the customers were also nearby residents who went down to check out the new stall. One of them was 47-year-old Terence.
Although he was surprised by the long 30-minute wait, he said the food certainly did not disappoint.
The Shi Nian Pig Leg Rice outlet at Old Airport Road is opened by Mr Pang, who is part of the Shi Nian family business as well as the owner of Nic & Tom Eatery.
He shared with 8World News that he decided to hold the promotion as an “opening ceremony celebration”.
Despite the high footfall at the food centre, he decided to open the promotion up to the public, hoping to thank regular customers for their support.
It was also an opportunity to get feedback from the public.
Mr Pang shared that his parents were originally the owners of Bai Nian Niang Dou Fu stall.
In 2019, his parents started Lin Ji Pig Leg Rice at Albert Road Food Centre.
It was later renamed Shi Nian Pig Leg Rice and now has outlets islandwide, including at Senja Hawker Centre and Chong Pang Food Centre.
If you’re hoping to check out Shi Nian Pig Leg Rice for yourself, here’s how to get there:
