Earlier this week, a video showing a personal mobility device (PMDs) rider fearlessly riding an e-scooter above a shelter went viral.
On Wednesday (20 Nov), Channel NewsAsia (CNA) reports that a 19-year-old man has been since been arrested for committing a rash act.
According to the report, police were notified about the video on Tuesday (19 Nov). The 19-year-old was arrested on the same day.
The swift arrest was made possible thanks to pictures from police cameras.
Based on “preliminary investigations”, the incident took place along Lompang Road in Bukit Panjang on Monday (18 Nov).
The errant rider faces a jail term of up to 6 months, a fine of up to $2,500 or both.
In the video, the PMD rider can be seen riding on what seems to be a shelter above a pedestrian walkway.
This video, uploaded by Instagram user @fixiesgmemes, came with the caption “No riding on pavement, no riding on grass, ride on shelter”.
This was presumably in defiance of the recent PMD ban, which bans e-scooters from being used on pedestrian footpaths.
