When a male suspect was arrested in Bukit Merah, several members of the public stepped in to assist the police.
The scene was captured in a TikTok video posted on 23 Oct by a resident, who praised those involved for their efforts.

In what the resident described as a show of “good community spirit,” about four to five men helped two police officers hold down the suspect.

The group of “quick-thinking” residents and workers helped subdue a “violent man,” he said, with one of the larger men pressing his full weight on the suspect’s buttocks to keep him immobilised.

The suspect could be heard shouting as he lay restrained on the ground, with the passers-by only releasing him once police had secured him in handcuffs.

Shortly after, two additional police vehicles arrived on the scene, bringing three more officers to support the initial two.

The resident described the police response as “swift” and “professional”.

The suspect was later taken to a nearby ambulance that had also arrived.

The resident praised the joint effort, saying:
Kudos to the team effort… for keeping our neighbourhood safe.
In response to queries by MS News, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said it received a call for assistance at about 5pm on 19 Oct.
The location was Block 107 Jalan Bukit Merah.
A 56-year-old man was arrested for fraudulent possession of property and suspected drug-related offences, SPF added.
He was subsequently conveyed to the hospital in a conscious state.
Police investigations are ongoing.
