National Day is an occasion to get together and celebrate, in the spirit of this year’s NDP theme, Our Singapore.
That’s why POSB is doing things a little differently. This year, the bank’s mascot Smiley is inviting fellow mascot friends from other organisations into the spotlight.
That is, to a National Day Mascot Reunion.
And Smiley seems to be sparing no effort in getting the all set up.
To lighten the mood, the invitations won’t be sent out in batches. Instead, fellow mascots will receive personal invitations from Smiley via Facebook. For those familiar with Smiley and the other mascots, the reunion should certainly evoke some warm nostalgia.
Invitations will be whisked out not just to other bank mascots, but also to Singapore’s most iconic ones — People’s Association’s Pan and Ally, PUB’s Water Wally, Singa the Kindness Lion and Sharity the Elephant, to name a few.
For every mascot that attends, POSB will donate $1,000 to People’s Association’s “Project We Care” fund, which supports meaningful community initiatives and programs such as befriending and imparting useful skills to vulnerable residents.
A cause worthy of National Day indeed.
We don’t often see such campaigns. But they make sense and this is a direction we should definitely work towards.
After all, National Day is a celebration for everyone. Like in the ever-nostalgic song from 1990, we must always remember that we are “One People, One Nation, One Singapore”.
So go ahead and cheer on your favourite mascots to join the cause.
