Pregnant mother in S’pore busts out dance moves at showcase

A 9-month pregnant mother in Singapore amazed the crowd with her dance moves during a showcase at the World Dance Colosseum (WDC) Singapore 2024 on 20 June.

Videos of her mesmerising performance have circulated online, capturing netizens’ attention.

“Nothing can stop her from dancing,” one clip said. Her expressive dance showed off her amazing mobility despite being pregnant, with twirls drawing cheers and applause from the crowd.

The showcase was part of the first WDC competition hosted in Singapore. Featuring 2v2 dance battles in multiple dance categories, the winners will make their way into the WDC 2024 FINAL in Japan.

Judge steals show at dance contest

WDC Singapore featured some of the most talented dancers in Singapore, but one of the judges stole the show with her performance whilst being 9-months pregnant.

The judge in question is Rachel, also known as Racheezels, a 35-year-old dance artist, educator, and choreographer. She is part of a dancing duo, ScRach MarcS, together with her husband.

The amazing performance that captured the netizens’ eyes was her judge showcase, which was a Waacking freestyle/improv performance. Waacking is a street dance style that became popular during the Disco era in the late 1970s.

Some netizens concerned, but she had the chops, vigilance, and support

Once clips of the performance made their way online, many were amazed by it. However, plenty of netizens also expressed concerns that this was a bit risky for the baby.

Rachel explained that years of experience with dancing allowed her to adapt her expressive dance moves to her new body. Her only concern was to not slip and fall, so she was extra vigilant while performing.

To that end, she considered a song that made her feel calm on stage.

Rachel’s husband Marcus, who was also one of the judges, was right by her as she performed.

“I guess he was looking out for me so I felt safe!” she said.

Baby expected very soon

The couple have yet to decide on a name for their baby, but the expectant mother said her baby is due any time now.

“I’m expecting a baby girl, so it is precious for me to be dancing with her before she’s born”, Rachel added.

Many netizens also chimed in the comments, saying her baby was dancing with her and that she’ll be coming into this world dancing.
