Private hire driver in JB allegedly harassed woman recently discharged from hospital, tried following her home

Private hire driver in JB allegedly harassed woman & tried following her home

A private hire driver in Johor Bahru has allegedly harassed a woman returning home after being discharged from the hospital.

The story was shared on Reddit where it has amassed over 100 comments.

Woman returns home late at night after emergency hospital visit

The Reddit post shared now-deleted screenshots of images that have been shared on social media.

In the images, a woman said that she booked a private hire to return home after being discharged from the hospital’s emergency department. She was reportedly suffering from a mild case of rhabdomyolysis, a muscular condition.

The condition had left half her body numb, according to one of the images.

Seeing as it was very late at night, around 3-4am, she didn’t want to call her friends as it would be an unnecessary burden on them.

After getting in the car, the driver began harassing her. First, he asked seemingly harmless questions like why she was visiting the hospital. However, it escalated quickly when he asked her to undress to check if she was “really in pain”.

He also asked her if she had eaten, a gesture that she initially thought was thoughtful. However, he then offered to stop at a restaurant and asked her to eat with him. When the woman rejected him, he raised his voice at her, asking why she had said no.

When she didn’t respond further, the driver “suddenly began laughing”.

Driver tried following her into her home

When they arrived at her place, the driver allegedly refused to provide his ID and license plate number to the security guard.

Instead, he “ignored the security and locked the door”.

“His focus was solely on me,” she wrote.

The driver then asked the woman if he could come upstairs with her to sleep with her and her friends.

Shocked by the proposition, the woman quickly left the vehicle. She then asked security to not let the man in, as he had been trying to follow her.

She added in her post that the man had been a “reckless driver” and they allegedly almost got into an accident as he “was driving very fast”.

The driver also reportedly asked her personal details, telling her that he was “lonely”.

Filed a police report, but driver used a fake number

Following the traumatic experience, the woman filed a police report against the man. The inspector who received her report tried to get in contact with the man so he could come to apologise to the woman for his behaviour.

However, the number could not be reached. The woman also alleges that the number provided on Grab had been fake.

From screenshots, the woman had also made a report to Grab who said they are currently investigating the case.
