A 59-year-old man was found dead in his Punggol HDB unit on Wednesday (13 Nov).
The deceased, known as ‘Ah Cheng’, lived in a unit at Block 206A Punggol Place.
According to his neighbour Mr Hu (transliterated), the 59-year-old had been living alone since he moved in around seven to eight years ago.
Mr Hu said he never saw relatives or friends visiting the unit.
The police told MS News that they were alerted to the incident at about 1.40pm on 13 Nov.
They entered the Punggol flat and found the deceased lying motionless inside. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The police do not currently suspect foul play.
Shin Min Daily News reported that the 59-year-old was found lying in the living room.
Although his legs had turned black, there was no strong odour reported at the scene.
Several meal packets had been left hanging on the unit’s door.
A volunteer who delivered food to him allegedly saw the unreceived meals and subsequently alerted the police.
Mr Hu said that ‘Ah Cheng’ did not have employment due to health problems and relied on monthly government aid.
Furthermore, volunteers brought meals for him every day.
He said the deceased suffered from breathing difficulties due to heart problems and had a pacemaker.
The man allegedly once told Mr Hu that he “almost died” from his medical issues.
Mr Hu said the last time he saw Ah Cheng prior to his death was the previous week.
The deceased had gone over to his house to request some cooking ingredients.
However, Mr Hu said a friend had talked to the 59-year-old on Monday (11 Nov) and went grocery shopping with him.
The police investigation ended at around 7pm, with officers carrying the body out of the unit.
