Late last month, a local animal welfare organisation found 106 live quail chicks in Lim Chu Kang.
Abandoned inside a bin like garbage, none of them survived.
In a Facebook post on Sunday (3 Nov) night, the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society of Singapore (ACRES) said it made a “frustrating find”.
Late at night on 27 Oct, a concerned member of the public called its wildlife rescue hotline.
They reported hearing chirping sounds from a green bin in Lim Chu Kang.
When ACRES arrived, it found a quail chick on top of a black trash bag.
More chirping could be heard from below.
The sounds came from 106 live chicks inside the bag.
According to a video shared by ACRES, a massive number of unhatched eggs were also recovered.
When spread out, they covered a large area of ground.
Among the numerous eggs were the motionless carcasses of chicks that seemingly died shortly after they hatched.
Sadly, none of the chicks survived despite the best efforts of ACRES, the post said.
The group has filed a case with the National Parks Board.
It did this so that the authorities can investigate how and why the large number of fertilised quail eggs and chicks were left in a bin.
It also thanked the caller for alerting it to the case.
