Community Clubs (CC) are places which often bring residents of a neighbourhood together through various events and activities.
From ballet to taichi classes, CCs offer a wide range of activities for different age groups. But with changing times and interests, CCs are also transforming to fit residents’ needs.
Radin Mas CC is one of them, adopting technical innovations that’ll make it Singapore’s first smart CC, according to a report by The Straits Times.
Let’s have a sneak peek at what’s in store.
After 3 long years of renovation, Radin Mas CC reopened to the public on Sunday (6 Oct). The Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr Chan Chun Sing, was there to grace the event.
Among the CCs interesting new features is the Cyber Space corner which allows visitors to access electronic reading materials on computer terminals.
The ability to zoom into certain sections of the text using the touch screen feature greatly improves the reading experience especially for the elderly.
In addition, instead of the usual method of booking courses and facilities over the counter, visitors can now make such requests via a 24-hour self-service kiosk.
But that’s not all. On top of all these smart features, Radin Mas CC has also removed the use of physical keys, and moved on to facial recognition features.
This feature has been installed throughout the entire building, according to The Straits Times.
If the new technical improvements prove to serve the CC well, there’s a chance that we’ll see them at other CCs across Singapore too.
Mr Sam Tan, Minister of State for Social and Family Development, told The Straits Times that Radin Mas CC “could act as a ‘test bed’ for other community clubs in the Republic”.
Apart from the smart initiatives, Radin Mas CC also has an NTUC Health Senior Day Care Centre located in the building.
Keeping to the purpose of CCs serving the community regardless of age, the CC also has features appealing to the younger crowd.
Those passionate for the arts can make use of the performing arts studio, while food fanatics can check out the culinary arts studio.
