If you’re the kind of person who’s prepared for everything, you probably have an emergency “GO Bag” full of essentials tucked away in your storeroom.
For those who are unfamiliar with GO Bags, they’re emergency bags packed with essentials like food, water, and clothes, that one would find handy in case of a natural disaster or similar urgent emergencies.
We’re currently facing something like a natural disaster – the Covid-19 pandemic – so now’s precisely the time to prepare emergency that’s catered to the current situation, just in case you need it.
This Redditor took the liberty of sharing a list of what to pack in your GO Bag – Covid-19 edition – that’s perfect for an unexpected visit to the hospital.
Take a look at his list of essentials below.
The Redditor related a friend’s experience of getting held up at a hospital as she was tested for Covid-19.
She thought she just had the flu, and visited her local General Practitioner clinic to get a medical certificate and some medicine.
Since she didn’t expect to be taken to the hospital, she left the house with just her wallet and nearly-dead phone.
Unfortunately, she ended up being sent to the Accident and Emergency (A&E) department of a hospital for to be tested for Covid-19.
With her phone was nearly out of battery, her mother had to leave work just to pass her a portable phone charger, her Identification Card (IC) and some water.
According to the post, she had to wait an hour for the ambulance to take her to the A&E, which must have been arduous with a dying phone.
The visit to the hospital was certainly unexpected. Sadly, the patient had no choice but to inconvenience her mother to pass her the things she needed for the trip there.
With more patients turning out to be asymptomatic recently, perhaps it’s best to be prepared for a hospital visit at all times.
No one wants to burden others with errands if they can help it, and taking a bag with these essentials to the doctor with you will help avoid that situation.
Here’s the complete list of essentials that the Redditor suggests you pack in your ‘hospital visit bag’.
In no particular order, here’s what you should probably have on hand while visiting the doctor:
A form of identification (eg. IC, passport)
Wallet
Phone
List of allergies and medications, as well as records of your medical history
Emergency contact list
Phone charger and cables
Electronic devices to keep you entertained, e.g. laptop, portable gaming devices
Water
Snacks
Jacket
Change of clothes
Toiletries, e.g. toothbrush and toothpaste, face wash, soap
Personal hygiene supplies, e.g. mask, hand sanitiser, gloves
The list is rather extensive, and it’s definitely enough to tide you over if you end up spending hours at the hospital or clinic.
The Redditor even suggested having an individual essentials bag for each family member.
Having a bag of essentials to take to the doctor with you is just another way of being prepared for Covid-19.
No one is exempted from the risk of contracting it — even the young and healthy are at risk.
In the coming weeks, it’s expected that the number of cases rise as more Singaporeans return home. We need to be even more cautious and try to stay indoors more, to minimise the spread of Covid-19 as much as possible.
Other than being prepared for the doctor, we have to brace ourselves to sit this pandemic out. Adhering to the stricter precautionary measures is the only way to get through it safely, let’s do our best to follow them.
